Our House on  the Costa Blanca

Ok here it is the story of our little Spanish house we decided about twenty years ago that we wanted a Spanish property. So after two kids and being broke for the following twenty years here we are with a little house in the middle of a Spanish village on the Costa Blanca. Feel free to keep an eye on the changes and I will update this page as often as I can. And if it helps I will list my Spanish links at the bottom of this page.

Ok this is the house we bought as it was when we fell in love with it .....then....

We had it painted to look like all the other Spanish houses in the street but with a colour no one else had...

This is our lounge with huge great big doors both ends and very high ceiling and open fire place..bit of work to do though...

First things first lets strip the walls and re-paint the scaffolding was hired from a local firm and cost pennies if you can collect it delivery in Spain is always expensive.

Walls painted we decided to tile the floors as tiles are the norm and made just up the road they are so cheap compared to the Uk.

Just time to grab five minutes and have a look at our progress....

While burning some rubbish on our first day in the house we found the chimney has a crack in it about half way up no way of fixing it so we decided to install a wood burner and here it is...

The other large doors in the lounge lead to what we will call our kitchen when we get it done ...here we go.

First lets remove that thing in the corner (a toilet installed recently to make the sale easier) the only one in the house.

Lets take the old concrete sink out (made for 3ft pigmys) and weighs about half a ton.

We installed a new floor above the soon to be new kitchen ready for a future project ...

Back to the tiling a certain Mr P Mills was asked one day back in blighty (you can tile can't you ? ) Yes came back the reply ah ah he meant wall tiles ...well many floors later he can now tile floors..

And this proves it...

We had such a game getting hold of flat pack kitchen units 3 years ago but now you can them anywhere.

We now have to tile the walls etc...etc...

And we found in Spain flat pack kitchen units do not come with doors or anything else for that matter...but we got some and here they are.

Window in bedroom 1 is removed and glass blocks installed...

Mrs Sexkitten inspecting the glass blocks

Ah this was a window but now leads to the new floor we put in place. Which will be the floor of our new bathroom.

Doorway made and door in place.

Stud wall fitted in to allow room for stairs to roof terrace. Mr Mills testing position of fittings...

All plumbing done time to tile the walls with 2ft long tiles...

Almost finished just need a bit of colour...

All done including the shower

Stairs are made of clay blocks which break easy with wear so we tile over them better looking and more durable...

can't decide what to do with those front facing edges ?

Newly tiled stairs to first floor

we fitted these to access the roof terrace

From left to right Mr Mills Alice and myself on the roof terrace taking in the sun..

we put a roof over the old courtyard which now provides us with a great cloths drying area...

Crazy Mr Mills takes a hammer to our wall to make a doorway....

Doorway made door fitted and roof void filled...

Mrs Sexkitten & Alice painting the new door...

Me finishing the new roof off ....

This is the main road that goes straight through the village

The village square looking back towards the house...

The village square surrounded by lots of flowers an ideal place to sit and watch the world go by.

A nice picture from our roof terrace at night

This is the village pool not ours...

Mrs Sexkitten hard at it ? i think not..

Fireworks and lot's of them

A firework display to put some uk councils to shame

9 in the morning Hot chocolate is on the menu this time..

A look at the giant paella as it's being cooked..

A few of the locals parade round in the morning during the fiesta giving out a sweetbread type cake.

Mr Mills is not over keen on the paella me thinks..

From left to right Mrs Sexkitten Alice my better half and Mr Mills the tiler sampling the local beer.

More fun and games during the Fiesta

Mrs T Sexkitten with her new man..this was the local policeman

A man called Alan testing the paella on offer at the Sanet Fiesta...

These great big things are made of paper

And when they have been judged..

They burn them ..

The girlies tucking in...to paella

After much coaxing we get Paul eating the best paella around

Betty & me

Gill

Paul & Alice having just the 1

Sheila and Carol

Our roof after being stripped

Roof during re-covering

Nearly complete

Just needs re-painting

Steel re-inforcement for the uneven floor
